Team Army, the Ethos charity which raises funds for sport in the Armed Forces, is celebrating having raised and distributed over £3m. Team Army was launched just four years ago to raise funds and attract sponsorship and donations to support all sports within the Forces. Until its inception, fund-raising had been disparate and efforts often duplicated. Now nearly 80 Forces sports associations benefit, many of whom have never before enjoyed private sector funding.
Team Army’s £3m contribution has helped to nurture outstanding Forces athletes, fund sports for disabled soldiers and support successful members of Team GB at the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games in London, the 2014 Winter Olympics and Paralympics in Sochi, and the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Perhaps as significantly, the funding has allowed hundreds of soldiers to enjoy the benefits of taking part in team and individual sports.
Team Army hosts a full calendar of sporting and fund-raising events throughout the year, from boxing events to Sandown racing, cricket at Lords, rugby at Twickenham, the disabled entry in the Fastnet Race and the hugely successful annual Army Sports Awards, all supported by a loyal and growing band of sponsors and supporters.
